Our Blog - Bretagne Trip - Summer 2021 - Getting to Bretagne

Finishing our 2-day trip to Bretagne, we left our first Chambres d'hôtes and found a nice walk through sunflower fields and vineyards. As we learned from the day before at the wine tasting, there are quite a few vineyards around, with the grapes being used for a variety of things: grape juice, wine, Cognac, and Pineau des Charentes. Cognac is fairly well-known, but we had never heard of Pineau before. It is a regional aperitif which is a fortified wine normally made by adding Cognac eau-de-vie to fresh, unfermented grape juice and then matured.

We had a long drive in front of us and the traffic seemed to be horrible on the roads, so we quickly made a change in plans. We searched and found a nice little sign-posted walk that took us through sunflower fields and vineyards. A few pictures from the walk, including the signposts, which were the best signs we had seen on a walk so far. If there was an intersection, it told us which way to go as well as having X's where we should NOT go. In this case, there were 4 different walks (of different lengths) that shared a portion of the path.

This seemed to be a grape vine nursery. I assume that at some point in time, these vine "tops" will get grafted onto root stock.

And a good view of the grapes ... the vines were full of grapes although at this point in the year, still a little small. They still have more than a month to fill out.
